About YYC Trades

Every listing is scored using publicly available Google review data. The formula is:

score = rating × ln(review_count + 1) + recency_bonus

• Rating — average star rating on Google (out of 5).
• ln(review_count + 1) — rewards businesses with more reviews, but with diminishing returns so a single 5-star outlier doesn't beat a 4.7 with 200 reviews.
• Recency bonus — +0.5 if there's a review in the last 90 days. Active businesses rank higher.

Creating a free account unlocks contact info instantly. We do this for two reasons:

• It helps us understand demand so we can prioritize new neighbourhoods and trades.
• It keeps automated scrapers from harvesting contractor contact info.

We never sell your email and we never call you. Sign in with Google in one click, or use email + password.

Contractors cannot pay to rank higher. There are no sponsored slots, no boosted listings, no upsells. The order you see is the order the algorithm produces.

Listings are refreshed weekly from Google Places. If you spot a business that shouldn't be here, or one we've missed, let us know.

YYC Trades is a Calgary-built independent directory. It was created out of frustration with directories that bury the best contractors behind paid placements. We're a small local team — if you have feedback, we'd love to hear it.
